Feb. 13- Feb. 17

This Week:

We had a wonderful Valentine's Day Party on Monday!  When we first arrived we made handmade valentine's for someone special to us.  Later before the party we made our "Bee Mine?"  Valentine cards and made either a love bug or a bee mine necklace.  We enjoyed some treats during snack ( Thank you!! ) and after snack we read " The Night Before Valentine's Day".  On Wednesday, we finished up letter Nn by reading " Number Hunt" a story the previous class made.  We then had our own number hunt and I took pictures so we can make a new number hunt book.  We sang and danced to " Number Rock" were we counted all the way to twenty!  We also practiced writing numbers one through ten.  Today, we began to learn about letter Oo with Ollie the Octopus.  We learned that Octagons are a shape that have 8 sides.  During art we made Ollie the Octagon Octopus.

1/30- 2/3

This week we focused on letter Mm with Marvin the Monkey.  We all had so much fun singing two of our favorite monkey songs:  "5 Little Monkeys Swinging in a Tree" & " 5 Little Monkeys Jumping on the Bed".  We practiced writing our letter Mm's and made monkey puppets.

On Wednesday, we discussed groundhog day and what it means to us if he sees his shadow or if he does not see his shadow.  We all took a guess at what we thought would happen and it turns out that most friends in our class thought that the groundhog would see his shadow and they were right!  On Wednesday we also worked on number ten.

On Friday, we started the day by reading, " The Mitten" by Jan Brett.  We really made the story come to life when we acted out each part with puppets.  To learn more about Jan Brett and other books we have read please click here.  We then read our small book, " Looking for Letter M" and circled all of the M's we could find.  Later after snack we worked on our sorting and graphing skills with M & M's!   Each of the children first colored their sorting sheets by looking at each color word and sounding out the letters.  We then found the matching word under our graph and circled it with the appropriate color.  We we were ready we opening up our M & M bags and began sorting and graphing.  It turns out that as a class we had the most orange M & M's.  When all the hard work was over we of course got to eat our M & M's.  Later in the day we read the story, " If You Take a Mouse to the Movies"  that was brought in for show and tell.

Next Week:

We will be learning about letter Nn, review numbers 1-10, work on Valentine's day crafts, discuss dental health, and celebrate two friends birthdays.

Reminders & Special Notes:

During this month you may see me working with students one on one throughout the day.  I will be conducting mid-year assessments for each child to help me better plan the last half of the year and to prepare for our conferences that are on February 29th.  If for some reason you are not able to speak with me during arrival for this reason please feel free to email me or call me at school.

Also if you would like to bring in Valentine cards for your child to give to his/her classmates please feel free to bring them in starting this Monday.

1/23-1/27

We learned about letter Ll with Larry Lion! We really enjoyed watching a video about lions in Africa on National Geographic Kids and making lion masks on Monday.  On Wednesday we focused on number nine.  We learned how to spell nine by reading and singing our number 9 book.  During art we cut letter L's out of construction paper and made nine lady bug thumb prints. On Friday, we read " Looking for Letter 'L" books and circled all of the letter L's.  We also read the book, " The Grouchy Ladybug" by Eric Carle.  While reading this book we talked about telling time on a clock and also how to share and be nice to others.  After we finished our story we made Lovely Ladybugs that you can see in our classroom art gallery.

Please remember to check out our photos on the left side of this blog to see activities that your children having been doing.
