3/19-3/23
Last Week:
Last week we learned about letter Ss with Silly Snake. During the week we learned about snakes and spiders! The children enjoyed watching a video of a spider spinning it's silky web and a sidewinder snake appear to jump sideways to move. We all made a class spider web with yarn and then the children all made their own individual webs with craft sticks and yarn. They all thought that the spiders should be very tired because it was very hard work. We also learned about number 13 and reviewed our shapes that start with letter Ss. We all had so much fun on Friday with our Silly Sock Day and our surprise boxes. Each student gave the class three clues( focusing on describing words) about what was inside the box and then the children would guess what was inside!
We would like to thank all of our parents for coming in to read to the class this month!! We all really appreciate it and enjoyed each story.
This week:
This week we will be learning about letter Tt with Tommy Tiger who loves trains! We will be discussing tigers, turtles, tulips, time, and triangles. We will also focus on number 14. Throughout the week we will be discussing our hop-a-thon and children with special needs. In our discussions we will be focusing on how everyone is different which makes us all very special and unique. We will be talking about our muscles and Muscular Dystrophy.
Please remember our Hop-A- Thon and Spring Celebration is on Monday, April 2nd outside at 9AM- 11:30AM. Hope to see you there!

Happy St. Patrick's Day!
This Week:
This week we learned about letter Rr with Rowdy the Rodeo Rat. We discussed why it is important to learn how to read to succeed. We focused on color red and rainbows. While outside we did different relay races. We also learned number 12.
On Wednesday, we read "Leprechaun on the Loose!" and learned how these little leprechauns can be very mischievous. During art, we made fun hand print leprechauns (hallway bulletin board) and we learned some fun leprechaun songs Click here to see us sing " I'm a Little Leprechaun".
On Friday, we read, " Hooray for St. Patrick's Day!". We made leprechaun necklaces and shamrock sun catchers. We even had a visit from a leprechaun. After we came back from the bathroom we walked into our classroom to find little green footprints EVERYWHERE! This little leprechaun ran all over our classroom leaving a big mess, but that was not all he left. Gianna found a little note from the leprechaun with clues to find his pot of gold. All we had to do was find each piece of a rainbow hidden in our classroom. All of the students took turns looking for all of the colors. At the end we found 8 small pots of gold with the purple part of the rainbow! We then enjoyed a wonderful green filled snack! We finished the day by playing hot potato.
Next Week:
We will be learning letter Ss, number thirteen, and we will be discussing spring.

This Week:
On Monday, we learned about letter Qq with Quilla Queen. We practiced different ways to make lowercase letter Q and made Queen puppets. We also celebrated Jack's 5th birthday at the end of the day!
On Wednesday, we learned about number 11. We learned how to spell the word, write the number, and we discussed which numbers come before and after 11. I also introduced the value of different coins. We focused on learning that one quarter equals twenty five pennies and one dime and one penny equal eleven cents. We then had a lot of fun making quarter rubbings on the letter Q.
On Friday, we reviewed letter Q and the sound that it makes. We named many different letter Q words while we read " Looking for Letter Q" and we circled all of the Q's we could find. As expected, many children started to circle lowercase P in stead of lowercase Q. This is a common difficulty as well as mixing up lowercase B and D. We will be working on this throughout the year. In preparation for our St. Patrick's Day Celebration we learned a fun Leprechaun song and we all helped paint a large rainbow for our class board in the hallway.
Next Week:
We will be learning about letter Rr, rainbows, and number 12. During the week we will be making different St. Patrick's day crafts. Thursday we do have a half day so the children will be dismissed at 11:30AM. On Friday, please send your child to school wearing green for our celebration!

Last Week:
We had so much fun learning about letter Pp with Penelope Pig! On Monday, we made pig puppets and acted out The Three Little Pigs. The children were also able to retell the story with the felt board in the literacy center. On Wednesday, we made picnic baskets filled with all different foods that start with letter Pp. We also enjoyed having a pretend picnic in our classroom and found all the foods in the basket that start with the Pp sound. On Friday, we all came in wearing our favorite pajamas and celebrated Dr. Seuss' birthday by reading " The Cat in the Hat" and " Green Eggs and Ham".
I would like to thank all of the parents who came to school Wednesday night for parent/teacher conferences. It was really great to talk with each of you and learn more about your children.
During the month of March you or someone in your family can participate in our classroom by coming in and reading your child's favorite book to our class. Please check outside of our classroom for a sign up sheet. We will have two time slots available 9AM and 2:15PM.
This Week:
We will be learning about letter Qq with Quilla the Queen. We will also be learning about quails and questions. To help us describe our weather we will be using the descriptions of a "Lion" kind of day or a "Lamb" kind of day.
