First Week of School

We had a spectacular time getting to know each other these first few days of Pre-K!  On our first day of Pre-K we read " The Kissing Hand" by Audrey Penn and discussed some of our fears about going to school.  We also showed the children how to obtain a kissing hand of their own from someone special at home as well as give a kissing hand.

During our first full week of school, we read, " Chicka Chicka Boom Boom" by Bill Martin Jr. & John Archambault and focused on how to write and spell our names.  We even made our own coconut trees with our letters in our names on it!  We focused on learning our classroom rules, routines, and how to interact with our play and learning centers.  We learned how to hold our pencils and completed the prewriting pages in our Early Learning Skills Journals.  In the afternoons we also learned how to hold and use a scissor along with important scissor safety.

Next Week:

Starting on Monday, September 16th, we will be focusing on letter Aa, number one, and exploring apples! On Friday, we will be conducting an apple tasting and graphing.  Please send in your child's favorite apple on Friday morning.  Homework will be sent home in their folders.  Please have your child complete each page by Friday morning and have them put their homework back in their folders to return in to school.  As stated in the note sent home, we recommend doing the letter homework Monday or Tuesday and the number homework Wednesday or Thursday.
